Why this is senior work
Owning a large module inside a legacy government system meant introducing newer patterns alongside old ones, keeping data-heavy screens responsive, and closing the gap myself when the backend a feature needed wasn't there yet.
I owned a substantial portion of the application, including a large end-to-end module involving complex business logic, data-heavy interfaces, data virtualization, and backend integration.
Key contributions
What I built
Frontend ownership
Owned a large portion of the frontend implementation and worked on additional parts of the application beyond that area.
Complex business workflows
Implemented interfaces and workflows used for examining and processing wealth declarations.
Data virtualization
Worked extensively with data virtualization to handle large datasets efficiently while keeping the UI responsive.
Backend integration
Integrated frontend functionality with backend APIs and handled the client/server interaction the module required.
Backend implementation
When backend functionality was missing, implemented the required parts myself or corrected and adapted existing backend code to match the newer application patterns.
Legacy modernization
Worked within a legacy application while introducing and maintaining newer frontend and backend patterns.
Cross-stack ownership
Worked across the frontend/backend boundary when required to complete features and resolve integration problems.
Data virtualization
Render what's on screen, not the whole dataset
- Large dataset
- Virtualization
- Only visible rows rendered
- Responsive UI
13 / 10,000
DOM rows rendered right now. Scroll the list: the count stays small because only the visible window, plus a few rows of buffer, is ever in the page.
Illustrative demo with generated data. It shows the technique, not the production system.
Engineering challenge
Large datasets, responsive interface
Examining declarations means working through a lot of data at once. With data virtualization, the interface renders only the rows on screen, so scrolling and interaction stay responsive as the dataset grows.
